Alneda.com, Al-qaeda and the rest of the story as you may not know or care. My name is Jon, and I live in the US in nice seaside town and I was at time in business as an internet entrepreneur involved in web hosting, design, we had an ISP, and perhaps most notoriously we had some ‘adult’ web sites. The events of Sept 11, 2001 took me as much as pretty much most everyone I know by surprise. I know I had never personally witnessed anything quite so horrifying in my life and it unfolded before my eyes. My feeling was simply shock, pure shock. Then confusion, because sadly I like most of those around me knew surprisingly little about the world around us. I could not comprehend the depth of hatred necessary in which someone would commit such a heinous act, against regular people just going to work. I didn’t get. As strange as this sounds, and please forgive me, I was not angry. I was upset beyond words to the point I could not breathe due to the weight of the grief I felt for the families that lost loved ones in this incident. But I was not angry because in order to be angry I needed to know WHY what happened actually, and once I had enough information I could then be appropriately angry at whoever warranted my anger….. But, I needed information. I wasn’t getting anything useful from the main stream media. And everyone in Washington seemed to have a political agenda, regardless of what party they represented. So I set forth to gather my own “intelligence”. And this is where it gets really strange….. But we know that truth is always stranger than fiction. It appeared to me at the time that general consensus worldwide seemed to support the idea that it was “Islamic Extremist” that were responsible for this act of “terrorism”. So I set out across the web monitoring various “extremist” websites. I and some others began translating, analyzing various sites that at least appeared to be unfriendly and certainly were soliciting money and actions that were intended to bring death and injury to our Western nations. They were pretty bold about it, many times simply putting a bank routing number or Visa and MasterCard online shopping cart programs. And the “donations” were to be used specifically for WEAPONS to be used against US. Further, were volumes upon volumes of zipped documents outlining specific ways to kill US, how to prepare to KILL us….. There were more than a few sites dedicated JUST to “KILLING US”. The group of us even figured out how many times when they updated the web pages the *real* information was stegographically encrypted into the image in a way that it wasn’t visible to anyone without the special secret encryption key. By this time, I felt I had the necessary information to be angry, so I think I was….. But still felt pretty confused. My first instinct was, because I have some basic *networking server* I would just “take down” some of these hostile sites….. it was at this point I got a little tap from above (no not god) reminding me that it is illegal to HACK into anyone’s server, even those whom we do not like…. A felony in fact. I said “er Ok, I’ll find a work around” and I did. I thought about it for a bit and realized something…… If you are operating a website in which you are soliciting funds for acts of terror one problem would seem self evident. As a terrorist website, you COULD NOT use ACCURATE contact information in the registration of the internet domain you used for your website. Meaning for instance, Alneda.com which WAS the actual web address used by the Al-Qaeda organization. Al-Qaeda could not for obvious reasons put information of contact in which they could actually be reached….. So like anyone else operating an illegal website, they MADE UP the contact info. This is all well and good except it comes in direct conflict with the terms of service for most internet domain registries. So I registered Alneda.com, and more than few other websites that blatantly sponsored terror in a program call Snapback by a company Snapnames ™. Snapback™ simply grabs whatever you domain you register and assigns it to YOU the second a domain is for whatever reason DROPPED by the a holding registrar. I then went on a letter writing campaign to the various registrars in which these terror websites names were held. I demanded that in accordance with their own terms of service they DROP the domain, for example Alneda.com because the contact info as shown was in fact fictitious. On July 12, 2002 the ALNEDA.COM was dropped from its registrar months before it was due to expire. And the moment it was dropped due to my complaint, it was assigned instantly to me. I did this with not just Alneda.com, but several other websites that represented an actual threat to Western society…i.e.: my friends, family and neighbors.. People sometimes ask me how I can call myself a champion of free speech and conversely hi-jack these websites. My answer is that these websites made an open threat to the life and well being to my friends and countryman…. More than threat…they went beyond to the point of soliciting funds and were actively planning hostile acts of violence and aggression. This wasn’t stuff I heard I the news, or read in the paper, this was there in front of me and I felt compelled to act in whatever manner necessary to protect those around me. And if that meant hi-jacking their websites, so be it, it was not their speech I meant to stop but their actions. Upon seizing control of Alneda I put up a decoy website. An exact duplicate of their own website with the exception of built in tracking so I could see from WHERE all these sites where getting their traffic. This worked perfectly in that my server logs revealed a reverse mirror back to every terror site that provided a portal to this Al-Qaeda web log. There was a period of about 12 hours downtime while the decoy site IP address propagated…. But they bought it. I went back to the sites found in my server logs and on their message boards they exulted “Praise Allah the Demanding Site is again up” (that’s what they called it then.) Well, this was too good to keep to myself, so I called up the ‘FEDS’ and a day later they sent a guy to my house that said he “wasn’t up on the internet stuff, but the internet guy would get up with me soon.” I tried to explain HOW time sensitive this was…. I said “THEY are going to realize it IS a decoy soon.” I was assured the “internet guy” would be on the job. Well the week passed into a full five days. Turned out the internet guy was on vacation. But he gave me a call and an email address. Later that day the Extremist message boards already knew it was a decoy….. Opportunity missed. That is crying over spilled milk. But WHAT enraged me was when a Federal Agent asked to enlist MY help and utilize my internet knowledge, even so far as offering to pay me a token….. BUT stating emphatically that no matter what my involvement with the government will be and can never be EVER officially acknowledged by ANY agency solely due to my business interest involving the “adult internet”. It more than irritated me then, and all through the events later that I was good enough to fight, even die fighting the battle, but too dirty to ever be one of ‘their warriors’. My house was like I dunno what, agents from agencies popping up at all hours of the day was a regular occurrence. The Alneda thing did concern me, and putting up the ‘HACKED, TRACKED, and NOW 0WNED by the USA’ might not have been the wisest course of action considering my security depended on agencies who specifically told me that when push comes to shove I’m on my own which is ok, because as time goes by it became clear to me that so is pretty much everyone else out there in America. A funny thought I had one day was thinking that as far as “Middle America” it is not the prospect that ‘Big Brother is watching’ that is so scary as the new realization that big brother isn’t, and we really ARE out here fending for ourselves, I think is what most average Americans find so frightening. Youssef al-Eiery was the “internet guy” for Al-Qaeda was killed by Saudi Security forces in Riyadh on June 3, 2003. The story is long but he was involved in some fairly extensive attack planning in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. On his bullet riddle person was among other things a blood stained letter hand written by Bin Laden in November some six months before. It was a congratulatory letter acknowledging the “achievements of the cells” basically, and an incidentally “WTF” about the Alneda site. In November of 2004 following his death another Al-Qaeda communiqué was released. This one came circulated and was gone in the blink of an eye. This memo was long and the part that is specific to THIS is the part in which call was made for the return of the ALNEDA site to the “rightful” owners immediately on the new year (ours)… and assurances that the vengeance for its taking and the death of Youssef al-Eiery would be as well. New Years Day, “Al-Qaeda” nearly succeeded in part one. They nearly seized control BACK of the domain Alneda from Directi, the registry in Bombay where I have it. They used nearly the SAME tactic I used in getting it from them. But with a TWIST. They forged a letter from ICANN demanding that THEY drop the domain due to false registry information on contact. They showed contact as being a bogus address and bogus email that was even listed. BUT because it was FROM ICANN (like the internet government) They SUSPENDED the domain PENDING DELISTING without even bothering to look at the actual CONTACT information on the DOMAIN. I spent ALL new years eve new years day and over $800 on phone calls and faxes back and forth to Bombay, but in the end I DID prevent THEM from hi-jacking it back. On the second point I was not so lucky. I suffer a degenerative neuro-systemic disease slowly has taken my lungs, my heart, my mind. My doctor is perhaps the most dedicated scientist I’ve ever seen. He has said, “It’s not a question of IF they got you, I’m just can’t figure out what it is.” I’ve lost 25% of my body weight in the past twelve weeks. My mind has only intermittent periods of coherency. I sometimes sleep 22 hours a day. While my lungs are fairly clear, the muscles that move the lung have atrophied to the point I can do almost nothing. No appetite, No thirst. Bastards. ironically....... Terror websites are protected by the first amendment but my adult website which at one time defined me as an entrepreneur is now likely considered obscene a crime that would have me incarcerated if not for my good fortune of impending death. America will always be land of free. The most patriotic thing an American can do is to be informed. Gain knowledge from all sources around the world. Do not take our leaders for their word. Their word is not good. Neither party. Don’t sacrifice freedom for protection. Our government can’t protect you anyway so WHY give away ANYTHING so PRECIOUS as FREEDOM and LIBERTY. ACT don’t REACT. Get information, become informed and ACT, don’t simply REACT to something you hear on TV. Information is power, without power you are powerless and you die.
